$RELNOT.TXT$ 2004-03-11 __________________________________________________ RT-11 V5.5 patch for Y2k - release notes, by MOSES The monitor and - first - the most frequently used utilities have been updated for usage until 31-dec-2099 inclusively. The following files have been patched so far: CUSTOM.TXT 15P 18-Jun-1999 PIP .SAV 30P 24-Jun-1999 DIR .SAV 20P 21-Jun-1999 IND .SAV 58P 16-Nov-1997 MACRO .SAV 63P 30-Jun-1997 LINK .SAV 49P 18-Jan-1998 LIBR .SAV 24P 19-Nov-1997 BSTRAP.MAC 96P 21-Jul-1997 KMOVLY.MAC 233P 29-Jun-1999 RMONFB.MAC 167P 11-Mar-2004 RMONSJ.MAC 84P 11-Mar-2004 SP .MAC 88P 22-Jun-1997 FSM .MAC 41P 30-Sep-1999 14 Files, 946 Blocks The following tools have been exempted from being patched: - DUP, because it doesn't clobber Y2k; - SYSTEM.MLB, since DEC themselves did it yet; - SYSLIB.OBJ, idem; - ERROUT, since not used so far; - BUP, idem (option /L [SUM 3-19 bottom, 3-20 ...]); - QUEMAN, since being outperformed by SPOOL (i.e. SP.MAC); - IND.SAV on disk AUTO, since it is special (rather, the general instance IND.SAV from disk 1/8 is done); - further less important stuff. Any tools else are not concerned [SUM B-1]. As orthogonal derivatives of a release chain, the patched utilities identify themselves by a plus sign, appended to the version report (e.g. "IND V05.28+"), when the user responded with an idle to the utility prompt (*). The bootstrap routine shows an extended boot message too. From 1-jan-2000 on, the DATE command requires century input - 1-jan-00 and so on is illegal then. The same applies to those options that deal with the year. PIP does not implicitly propagate the protection attribute from the input file to the output file anymore. If the user wants the output file to be protected, (s)he must protect it explicitly - regardless of the input file's protection status. While DIR became Y2k-compliant for Magnetic Tape [ANSI standard X3.27-1978 Level 4], it did not for TA-11 DECassette, since the latter has been obsolete since RT-11 V5.6 yet. Rather, it inferes the year-of-century numbers - as stored in the cassette's file headers - to the years 1973. through 2072. ____________________________________________________________________ http://www.mosesele.de/year2k.htm
